Profile
Over 25 years working in instructional design and educational development at Monash University (and Deakin University) in both graduate and postgraduate programs. My early career experience was in distance education. More recently my focus has shifted to developing flexible and online teaching and learning materials.
I have considerable experience in developing educational programs for online learning systems, in particular with Monash's proprietary educational software, InterLex (and its predecessors InterLearn and Lex).
As an educational developer I focus on ensuring that whatever educational technology we use assists rather than complicates the learning experience. I work to ensure that technology remains a servant of the educational process rather than an end in itself.
Role in CALT
I am employed part time on specific programs and technology developments within CALT. Currently these are:
- the Group of Eight online Future Research Leaders Program (FRLP), both for the Go8 in Canberra and within Monash University;
- the creation and use of e-books within this (and other) programs;
- the development of the new Monash Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (GCHE) to be available in 2010;
- the development of Monash’s InterLex software for use in the GCHE;
- resources for sessional staff through the Sessional Teaching Essentials Program (STEP) and the wider Monash Sessional Training Framework (MSTF).
- Providing advice to academic staff on podcasting at Monash.
