Graduate Certificate in Higher EducationThe Graduate Certificate in Higher Education is a course in higher education teaching. It is intended primarily for staff who are beginning their academic teaching careers. However, experienced staff may also find it useful, and are encouraged to enrol. It is offered on a part-time basis over four semesters, and is equivalent to one semester of full-time study. It is designed for practising academic staff with current full-time or fractional teaching appointments of 0.5 or more. The course aims to assist teaching staff to:
The course comprises four core subjects, each of 6 credit points and one semester's duration:
Each of the subjects is taught flexibly using a mixture of print-based study materials, and web-based discussion, interaction, and submission of student work. There are minimal face-to-face class requirements during semester teaching weeks. The activities for each subject are very practical, and highly embedded in students' normal teaching responsibilities. Doing the Graduate Certificate is thus not an entirely separate time commitment that is totally over and above a student's teaching responsibilities. The Graduate Certificate in Higher Education is taught by the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CALT). Monash University academic staff with appointments of 0.5 and above receive a fee waiver for course and amenities fee. Intending enrollees should complete the on-line Application Form. |
